Mildred Turns 100!

I had the privilege of photographing a very special birthday recently. Mildred celebrated her 100th with many of her family and friends.

During events like this, I try to mingle with family and friends (while taking pictures) to get to know them a little more. I cannot tell you all of the great things that were said about Mildred! So many people were willing to share fond memories and stories with me that I couldn’t help but feel honored to have the opportunity to photograph this milestone for such a wonderful person. In her 100 years, Mildred has left a mark on many people throughout her family and community.

Mildred has been blessed with 5 children, 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren (with one on the way), and 1 great-great grandchild. From what I learned of this family in the time that I was with them is that Mildred has been surrounded by good times and laughter her entire life. I watched Mildred throughout the day and she had a continuous smile and joy on her face.

At the end of the event, I approached Mildred to give my congratulations and tell her goodbye. There was one thing I knew that I could not leave without, her advice on achieving a long, happy life.

“I don’t have the answer, you should stay healthy and drink a lot of water.”

In the spirit of honesty, she did give me one more suggestion but I am going to keep that one between her and me!
